Cockatoo Island Is Throwing A Free (Socially-Distanced) Party, Hosted By Mary’s Burgers

Even the smallest moments of normality in 2020 mean the absolute world to me — being able to visit family, cheeky weekends away into nature and grabbing a beer with close friends are all things I’ll never take for granted again.

Now, we have a (socially distanced) party being thrown in Sydney by P&V Wine & Liquor Merchants and Mary’s Burgers, and I think my actual soul is smiling. The fact that it’s free means my wallet is smiling, too.

Whether you realised it or not, the 22nd Biennale of Sydney has been going on since June 1 at different art venues around the city, and this party will mark the final weekend so they can go out with a bang.

As you may have guessed, P&V and Mary’s will be taking care of the booze and food. P&V have promised a next-level wine selection with rare and varied bottles from around the world. You’ll be able to buy your vino by the bottle, and a large selection by the glass.

There’ll be plenty of free entertainment while you indulge yourself. You’ll get DJ sets from Julian Hamilton of the Presets (from 2pm to 4pm) and Dave Bowman (filling in the rest of the time). There’ll also be artwork set up around the island for you to wander through between treating your tastebuds.

The party is this coming Saturday, September 5, starting at 11am and running until 9pm. As usual (well, what used to be usual), ferries will be departing from Circular Quay, with the last ferry back home from the island departing at 11.19pm (so don’t get stuck).

The event is free, but numbers are capped as there has to be enough seating for everyone (sadly, this is still a pandemic world), so entry is on a first in, best dressed basis.
