Festival Bucket List: Fuji Rock

What: Fuji Rock Festival is Japan’s premier indie rock music festival with over 200 international and local acts set against breathtaking Japanese landscapes.

Where: Naeba Ski Resort in Yuzawa, Niigata.

When: Friday 24 July – Sunday 26 July, 2015

Capacity: ~100,000 people

Fun fact: The very first Fuji Rock festival was held on Tenjinyama Ski Resort near Mt Fuji but was labelled a disaster after the first day of the event was stuck by a typhoon. Organisers where slammed for being poorly prepared for the incliment weather and many festival goers were treated for hypothermia. Headliners Red Hot Chili Peppers played through the storm despite Anthony Kiedis having a broken arm, and are today heralded as Fuji Rock veterans.

Why should you go? Legendary acts (this year has Foo Fighters, Muse, and Motörhead, to name just a few), amazing scenery (sure the walks from stage to stage are long, but so worth it), the food stalls (the Oasis hub is a glowing market for food from every inch of the globe) and of course the thousands and thousands of people. It’s certainly one for the bucket list.
