Fairy Bread Burger: Sydney's Created An Absolutely Cursed Burger

We’re not even a month into 2020 and we already have a lamington burger, a technically-not-vegetarian-McVeggie and now, finally, a fairy bread burger.

Brought kicking and screaming into existence by Downtown Brooklyn in Sydney, it’s got two thicc slabs of wagyu, two streaks of maple bacon and two slices of American Cheese. And everything is stuffed in between a fairy-bread style buttered doughnut sprinkled with 100s and 1000s.

Reactions online have been alarmingly positive. “I can’t tell you how much this excited me,” said one user on Facebook. “oh my god oh my god oh my god oh my god,” said another. “I LOVE fairy bread and I love burgers,” one user commented three times in a row on Instagram.

Others aren’t quite so convinced. “I’m drooling yet uncomfortable,” one person admitted, while another simply proclaimed: “WTF nooooooo GIRL.”

The Fairy Bread Burger is only available until Monday, January 27. That’s your long weekend plans sorted, then. If you can’t decide whether this is cursed or inspired, you can try it for yourself at Downtown Brooklyn in Penrith.

If this is Sydney’s response to Adelaide’s lamington burger, we’re anxious to see what monstrosities other Aussie cities bring out in our latest culture war.

Want more options for your long weekend? Sydney’s throwing a party dedicated to ‘So Fresh’ CDs from the 2000s, there’s a pop-up bar in the Rocks serving $6 espresso martinis, and a four-day bubble tea festival kicks off this weekend in Melbourne.

Hit the beach at some of Sydney’s best evening swimming spots, or go all out and rent a private pool for you and your mates.
