The Most Exciting Updates Coming To Disney Parks in 2018 And Beyond
Disney’s D23 fan expo wrapped up in Anaheim, California, overnight, and – aside from dropping the first pictures and official name of the much-anticipated Star Wars Land headed for their California and Florida parks – they’ve announced a slew of awesome updates for the broader Disney universe.
Toy Story Land to open in 2018
We’ve known Toy Story’s much-anticipated namesake land was headed for Disney’s Hollywood Studios at Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando, Florida, for a while now, but now we know it’ll be here within the year! The whimsical land will see visitors shrunk to the size of a toy (not literally) and features rides like a family-friendly rollercoaster called the Slinky Dog Dash and Alien Swirling Saucers.
Super heroes head for Disney California Adventure park
While most of the details are still hush-hush, Spider-Man and the Avengers are set to join the Guardians of the Galaxy and a “completely immersive” Super Hero universe at the California Adventure park in Anaheim, California. According to a Disney blog post, parks visitors can “team up with [their] favourite Super Heroes like never before”.
Pixar gets its own pier
Likewise, the Paradise Pier at the California Adventure park is set to get a very Pixar makeover, with neighbourhoods from The Incredibles, Inside Out and Toy Story set to become permanent additions to the waterfront boardwalk. It’s set to open in 2018, along with a temporary celebration of all-things Pixar called PixarFest.
Shanghai’s top-rated Tron on the way to Florida
The TRON Lightcycle Power Run is the number-one attraction at Shanghai Disneyland for a reason and, now, it’s headed for Magic Kingdom Park at Walt Disney World Resort in Florida. The roller-coaster-style attraction sees riders perched atop a train of two-wheeled cycles.
New space will be carved out next to Space Mountain for the ride, which will open in time for the park’s 50th anniversary in 2021.
Getting around goes sky-high
Visitors to Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando, Florida, will be able to travel between the park’s resorts (and rest weary feet) on the just-announced Disney Skyliner, which will give guests a bird’s-eye-view of all the park’s universes.
A fleet of Minnie Mouse-themed vehicles were also announced, with the intention of transporting VIP guests between the park’s attractions.
