Sydney’s Getting A New Rideshare App With Half Price Rides All Month

didi sydney supplied

Sure, there are already a few rideshare apps in the market right now, but Chinese rideshare app DiDi is joining the club this month.

The newcomer is offering half-price rides for four weeks from launch. It intends to compete with established rideshare companies in the market like Uber, with prices up to 10 percent cheaper.

DiDi already operates in a number of Australian cities, having launched in Melbourne nearly two years ago. It’s also available in Geelong, Newcastle, Brisbane, Gold Coast, Sunshine Coast and Perth.

On launch in Sydney, it will offer two of its three services – the normal Express service and a Max service, with up to seven seats per vehicle. Its Share service, similar to Uber Pool, will launch in Sydney at a later date.

To celebrate the launch of DiDi in Sydney on 16 March, the company is offering half price rides for the four weeks after launch – if you sign up before the launch date. Similar to other app services, on referring a friend who joins, riders will receive a $20 credit to use towards DiDi rides.

The company is also offering sweet deals to any potential drivers out there. If you sign up as a driver for DiDi before March 11, and sign up two friends to the service as drivers, you can keep 100-percent of the cash made from your riders’ fares for four weeks from launch.

In other rideshare news, Uber has finally launched a new ‘quiet mode’ to prevent awkward small talk during rides, and also recently created a new rewards program, which applies to car rides with the normal Uber app, as well as food you order through UberEATS.
