Travelling while single is a liberating experience. You’re doing it for you, and aren’t constantly worried or reminded of what’s waiting for you back at home. And in 2019, finding a potential love interest is as easy as a swipe of a finger, meaning you can find some cool people to hang out with literally anywhere in the world, so long as you’ve got an internet connection. But dating overseas isn’t always so simple.
Whether you’re looking for a summer romance, someone to show you around or The One, dating while exploring the globe certainly has its pros (and cons).

Do: Be open to new experiences

The best thing about dating overseas is that you open yourself up to countless new experiences – this is the opportunity to have a local show you around the place they call home.
Don’t be scared to try new things.
This might be a cuisine you’ve never encountered, a part of town you may have overlooked or who knows, a potential love story for the history books. We all watched Mamma Mia and that was lit.
You’ll have the best time if you go into things with an open mind.
Don’t: Go out without letting someone know

This should go without saying, but I’m going to say it anyway. Never go out by yourself without letting someone know where you’re going.
This could be your travel buddy, a friend you met at your hostel or even a friend back home – this way, they know where you are at all times.
I’d recommend sharing your location with someone, that way if you find yourself in a spot of trouble, help is never too far away.

I’ve found that the best way to save yourself from an awkward moment is to be totally transparent with whoever you’re going on a date with. Dating overseas or while travelling in general can be tricky and you don’t want to crush anyone who may actually fall for you.
If you’re only in town for a week, let them know. If you’re not looking for anything serious, let them know. If you… you get it. Honesty is the best policy, and when it comes to toying with someone else’s emotions, it’s best to be upfront.
If someone is looking for a husband and you’re just looking for a nice place to eat, the post-dinner conversation can be a little cringe-worthy.

Easier said than done right? Everyone says it’s super easy to fall in love when you’re travelling and whoa boy, it’s true. There’s a little bit of travel advice from me to you.
And it makes sense right? You’re in a totally new environment with totally new people, everything is fresh and exciting – you could be excused for falling into the rom-com fantasy.
Like I said before, the best way to avoid this is transparency – leave an open line of communication between you and your date like adult single people.
This way you can be on top of your feelings before it turns into something uncomfortable.
If you do fall for someone super fast and the feeling isn’t mutual don’t sweat. There are plenty more fish in the sea, and plenty more hotties in whichever country you’re visiting.

If you don’t take it too seriously you’re going to have tonnes of fun. Take my travel advice words of wisdom: Don’t put a bunch of pressure and expectations on things and just live in the moment!
Think of it this way: your date is either going to be great, just average or a funny story to tell later on.
