An Expansive New Wildlife Sanctuary Opens On The Gold Coast Today

If you’ve eaten your fill of Christmas leftovers and are looking for a way to entertain the whole family that isn’t falling asleep in front of the Boxing Day Test, head on down to Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary, where a huge new wildlife sanctuary opens today.

The Lost Valley is perched on five hectares of tropical rainforest and boasts some of the world’s most unique flora and fauna. Here, visitors are taken on a journey through the ancient supercontinent Gondwana, where they’ll encounter exotic species like Ring Tail lemurs, Cotton-top tamarins, red pandas, and capybaras.

It’s a tribute to the Gold Coast Hinterland’s real Lost World Valley, which is part of the Gondwana Rainforests of Australia World Heritage-listed area formed by expansive reserves in both NSW and QLD.

Gondwana was once covered by rainforest vegetation, which is the most ancient type of botanical species in Australia. In fact, only a few places on the planet still boast flora and fauna that so closely resembles their ancient ancestors.
