Coincidentally, Niagara Falls Just Happened To Be Lit Up Purple Today

A few hours after Prince died, a rainbow appeared above his home in Minnesota, reaching high above the devoted fans who had gathered there to mourn. Regardless of your beliefs about life, death and what comes after that, some coincidental forces are hard to ignore.

Similarly, Canada’s Niagra Falls just happened to honour the passing of one of the greatest singers and songwriters of all time on the night of his death. For 15 minutes, from 10pm, the falls – which are lit up with a variety of colours each night – were just purple.

But, while literally embodying the concept of ‘Purple Rain’, the falls were actually illuminated to honour not Prince, but a Queen. On April 21, 2016, Queen Elizabeth II celebrated her 90th birthday and Niagara Parks had arranged a special purple illumination for this event, causing confusion and fascination among fans of the late, great musical legend.

Regardless of who the purple falls were meant to honour, the fortuity and timing feeds into a certain kind of magic – a kind beyond comprehension. Kind of like Prince himself.

Vale.
