Calling All Meat Lovers: Melbourne’s Hosting A Sausage Festival

There’s truly nothing like good meat. Slow-cooked, barbecued, smoked or pulled – any which way you have it, it’s all great. And what better way to embrace your carnivorous love than by seeing the best of the best battle it out to create one delicious tasting snag.

Now in its third year, Prahran Market’s Sausage Fest will bring together butchers and poulterers in an epic battle of barbecues to crown the Best Market Snag.

Held at Prahran Market Harvest Hall on Sunday January 29, the competition will see each trader’s competing sausages cooked to perfection by highly skilled chefs, then tasted and voted on by the public (with a $1000 prize pack up for grabs for one lucky taster).

All tastings will be free, and with the introduction of the butcher’s artisan precinct, shoppers can purchase their fave snags to take home on the day as well.

Expect some high quality meaty fare at this year’s Battle of the Butchers. While organisers are keeping mum on the official list of flavours available on the day, you can rest assured market butchers and poulters will be serving up some seriously superior snags. Previous winners include J & L Butchers for their lamb, spinach and pine nut sausage, and Gary’s Meats for their Thai chilli snag that stole the show in the festival’s inaugural year.

Prahran Market’s Sausage Fest is a completely free event. Get down to Prahran Market’s Harvest Hall on Sunday January 29th from 1pm to get your meat fix.
