Brace Yourself For The World’s Highest Infinity Pool

We think this is what they mean when they talk about living life on the edge. The naturally made “infinity pool” on the lip of the world’s largest waterfall Victoria Falls means swimmers have merely a barrier of slippery rock between themselves and a 100m drop. It’s called Devil’s Pool, but no one is quite sure why…

Victoria Falls or Mosi-oa-Tunya (The Smoke that Thunders) are situated on the Zambezi River in southern Africa, right on the border between Zambia and Zimbabwe. While it’s neither the highest or widest waterfall in the world, it is classified as the largest due to the sweeping sheets of falling water (500 million litres a minute) from its 1.7km breadth and 108m height. You know, those same sheets of water you are joyfully splashing about beside. It dwarfs Niagra Falls – in fact, it’s twice the height.

The pool only forms around the edges of the dry season when the water level is really low, usually between September and December. So probably best not to turn up in your bathers in January.
