While you’re cruising, be sure to make plenty of stops along the way to soak up the Blue Mountains’ scenic beauty, like these five Insta-worthy lookouts.

#1 Govetts Leap

About a 60km drive from Penrith, Govetts Leap is one of the most well-known lookouts in Australia, famed for its enormous 180m-tall waterfall.

Plus, it’s a hotspot for birdwatching if you’re into that kind of thing. Be on the lookout for the king parrot or listen out for the weela weela cry of the yellow-tailed black cockatoo.

#2 Evans Lookout

Along with Valley View lookout (which is just 100m up the road) Evans lookout offers stunning views towards the Grose Valley, and the stunning sandstone cliffs, which glow orange if you’re ever there for sunset.

Evans and Valley View are also pretty cool at sunrise, which makes it a good place to start one of the many nearby bush-walks.

#3 Lincoln’s Rock

Also known as Flat, Honeymoon, or Sunset Rock, this flat outcrop near Wentworth Falls overlooks a deep valley towards Mount Solitary. It’s popular with newlyweds getting that perfect sunset shot, and it’s also good for picnics if you’re organised.

You can spend ages here, and there are a stack of short loop-walks that start and end in the vicinity of Lincoln’s Rock. A little tip is to find the tiny track right next to the main rock, which takes you underneath to a cave not visible from the top.

#4 Hawkesbury Heights Lookout

Here, you overlook the Nepean River to the Penrith International Regatta Centre.

It’s perfect to get a feeling of being above the clouds – especially if you get up in the morning and there’s fog and mist clinging to the ground below. There’s BBQ and picnic facilities too if you’d fancy a cheeky sausage sizzle.

#5 The Rock Lookout

The Rock offers truly spectacular views. On a clear day, you can see all the way to Mount Kosciuszko, the Bogong Range and the Victorian Alps.

There’s a short walk between the carpark and The Rock, and a 5km round-trip hike starts and ends here too.

Do this weekend right, and head to the Blue Mountains, you know you won’t regret it!
