Rwanda’s Newest Eco-Retreat Is In The Middle Of A Volcano

Rwanda is a nature-lover’s dream – boasting rich, mountainous landscapes, fiery volcanic rock formations and an array of incredible African wildlife. Now, guests can live out their ultimate jungle fantasies from an eco-friendly forest villa.

The new Bisate Lodge has a façade reminiscent of tribal jungle huts, but hidden inside is a truly breathtaking modern-jungle aesthetic, featuring huge fireplaces, opulent bedding and authentic African décor.

Perched among the trees in the natural amphitheatre of an eroded volcanic cave, the retreat boasts incredible views of the neighbouring Volcanoes National Park, which is home to a bunch of active and dormant volcanic peaks.

Apart from being a pretty place to rest your head, Bisate Lodge is doing its part in protecting the natural habitat of their famed native gorillas. Their reforestation initiative has seen over 15,000 trees planted in the area, with guests invited to get their hands dirty, too.

The lodge offers an array of daily activities where guests can get amongst all the beauty the area has on offer. Guided hikes, nature walks, encounters with gorillas, golden monkeys, buffalo and elephants are all part of the daily itinerary.

If you’re keen to sleep among howling gorillas and rumbling volcanoes, rates start at $1,400 per night ($1,100USD) including meals, local beverages, activities and Wi-Fi.
