Yep, this summer classic has been immortalised in the Melon Capital of Australia — Chinchilla, Queensland. Chinchilla’s iconic Melon Festival helped get the town over the line when earlier in the year hotel booking site Wotif were on the hunt to find the perfect resting ground for Australia’s next Big Thing.

There were thousands of submissions from passionate locals around the country, but the Big Melon reigned victorious over fellow notable finalists, Glen Innes’ Big Kilt (NSW), Mittagong’s Big Tulip (NSW) and the Big Peanut in the Queensland town of Kingaroy.

Chinchilla’s monster big boy melon sits pretty at over three metres tall and almost nine metres wide, stealing the spotlight at the town’s local visitor centre.

If you didn’t eat a melon in front of the big melon this summer, are you really living your best life?
