Very Important: This New App Rates Hot Chips And Wedges So You Can Always Find The Perfect Fries

A Melbourne family’s passion project is the kind of genius idea you never knew you couldn’t live without until it exists – an index for hot chips.

ChipDEX is a mobile app that helps you in your eternal quest for delicious chippies. Finally, you can easily locate and demolish the perfect hot chips near you, whether you’re craving wedges or fries.

User reviews are based on categories like crunchiness and value for money – and considering it’s crowd sourced, the more people who eat and rate fries, wedges and chips, the better it is for everyone.

This is excellent news for Aussies, as boy do we love a hot chippie. Last year, Menulog alone reported 3.5 million serves of hot chips being ordered weekly, a number that has likely increased with the pandemic this year.

But there are also countless ‘chipfluencers’ who’ve already taken to socials with personal reviews of the fried potato, from this guy on Instagram who weighs and compares ‘minimum chips’ to the Melbourne legend eating her way through the supermarket frozen chip section. Pre-lockdown, even Melbourne’s Good Food and Wine Festival was set to have their first Maximum Chips event, 100 percent dedicated to the hot chip.

So really, this app is just consolidating our undying love of hot potatoes into one place.

On ChipDEX you’ll find all sorts of venues, ranging from your local fish and chip and chicken shops, to pubs and more high-end restaurants and bars. The app already features info on over 1,000 chips and you can use filters to find a specific type of chip, sauce or seasoning, or price range.

Once you’ve enjoyed your snack it’s time to have your say. Review chips based on overall rating, and give separate scores for crunchiness, fluffiness, taste and value for money. Let the best chips rise to the top and give average ones some genuine feedback to improve.

Creators, Jessy Trengove and her family, felt the logical next step to Australia’s chip obsession was to build a mobile app compiling the most complete chip database in Australia. She says she and her family have a “blind love of the potato”. You can download the free ChipDEX app from the App Store or Google Play.

Honestly, we thank them for their service.
