Forage Festival
Sure, the Barossa Valley is an hour north of the CBD, but it’s practically part of the city, especially when it comes to epicurean-style events. This month, the first Forage Festival – a sustainable feast of food and music in Tanunda, the veritable heart of the wine region – premieres.
The brainchild of Adelaidean music scene favourite The Porch Sessions and Forage Supply Co., a local thought-leader in sustainable living, this mini music festival will be serving up treats for all senses, with a healthy chunk of profits to be donated to the Hutt Street Centre to support the homeless community. Tickets start from $53.50 per person.

FRAN Fest
Luckily, there’s still time to catch the tail end of FRAN Festival in September – an art festival commemorating 40 years since The Women’s Show, which was once the largest Australia-wide exhibitions of women’s art. In that same spirit, FRAN (The Feminist Renewal Art Network) celebrates feminist and female art across the state, with everything from exhibitions, discussions, masterclasses and screenings at major and independent galleries all over the state.

Work-Shop
Although well-established in other Aussie capital cities, Work-Shop — the go-to for gaining new mad skills — is still building momentum in Adelaide after classes were introduced just three months ago.
September is packed with “always-wanted-to-do-that” classes like leather stamping, lino printing, oil painting and life drawing. Spring could be the season for the discovery of your long-dormant artistic skills. Courses start from $60.

City Cellar Door Series
The updated version of the popular fortnightly Uncorked series, City Cellar Door is a monthly event that invites city folk to venture to nearby wine regions without actually leaving the CBD.
On the city fringe, at the National Wine Centre, the event brings some of the region’s most popular cellar doors into one room for one night, showcasing two Australian wineries as well as some pretty delicious local produce. This month, Parker Coonawarra Estate and Vickery drops will feature.

The Seasonal Garden Café
The Seasonal Garden Café in Hahndorf is an Adelaide institution but, if a half-hour trip into the wine trail just east of the city is a smidge too long, the team the team behind it are set to open their first city venue in September. Bringing the same wholesome ethos to their new venture, produce will still come from their Hahndorf garden, along with local growers and farmer’s markets.

Poets And Pizza At Coriole
If there’s any sweeter combination than live poetry and roaming pizzas, we haven’t found it. In McLaren Vale, around 45 minutes south of Adelaide city, you’ll find it at Cariole. With live readings from veteran spoken-word poets and poetry slam specialists in the atmospheric surrounds of the Coriole vineyard, there’s no better way to ruminate on the change of seasons than at Poets and Pizzas.

Lavazza Italian Film Festival
A seasonal must-do, the Lavazza Italian Film Festival will reignite your fascination with the gesticulating gentlefolk of Italy. With the classic mix of heady, romantic dramas, the absurd, slapstick-style comedies and the truly thoughtful epics that Italian cinema is beloved for, there are also a few timeless tales on the ticket this year, including Roberto Benigni’s beloved La Vita e Bella (“Life is Beautiful”).
