This Year’s Best Cities For Travellers Have Been Revealed

Everyone knows New York, London, Paris and Singapore are heaven for tourists. You could spend years in these cities and not see half of all there is to do there. But the newest World’s Best Cities list to come from Condé Nast Traveler magazine in their Readers’ Choice Awards shows that not all of these travel titans are most impressive to travellers.

Both Sydney and Melbourne have trumped the megacities in the annual ranking.

Melbourne landed at #3 on the list of World’s Best Big Cities, beaten only by perennial travel favourites Tokyo and Kyoto (I mean, who doesn’t love Japan?). Melbourne was praised for being “sophisticated, stylish, and seemingly free-spirited”, and for its fantastic arts scene. Sydney came in at #6 and was described as “an ideal getaway no matter the season”. The ranking praised the city’s outdoor dining, beaches and events calendar.

Traveler also released a ranking for the World’s Best Small Cities. No Aussie cities made the list, but San Miguel de Allende, Mexico topped the list, praised for its looks and history. It was followed in second place by Salzburg Austria (think, beer halls) and in third by Lucerne, Switzerland (access to the Swiss Alps, and its pretty town centre).
