6 Of The Best Aussie Cafes In LA

Aussie coffee is going gangbusters.

We’re not here to brag or anything, but it’s common knowledge that Aussies do coffee better than pretty much anywhere else. So it’s no surprise that our friends in the USA have fallen in love with Aussie brew.

How do we know this? Well, over the past few years, a slew cafes owned and run by folks from the Land Down Under have cropped up in LA, and they’re going gangbusters.

If you’re looking for a proper flat white or a lamington next time you’re in the City of Angels, we’ve rounded up six of the best.

#1 Bronzed Aussie

Modelled after the humble bakeries of your childhood, Bronzed Aussie serves up everything from Vegemite toast and lamingtons to house-made sausage rolls and meat pies. It’s located in LA’s Downtown area, so grab a bonza breakkie and wander around the area’s incredible street art.

Located in oh-so-cool Venice Beach, you could be forgiven for thinking you’d wound up in Bondi thanks to Great White‘s lush, beachy vibes. Serving up avocado toast, smoothie bowls and Vittoria coffee like any good Aussie café, it’s a favourite among LA-based Aussie celebs and visitors alike.

#3 Gum Tree Shop & Café

A mainstay in Hermosa Beach since 2008, Gum Tree Shop and Café occupies a 100-year-old bungalow selling gifts sourced from around the globe, artisan products, jewellery, and books alongside a bloody good breakfast of avo toast, toasted quinoa and seasonal fruits. When you’re done perusing the wares on offer, pop down to the water for a wander along the iconic Hermosa Beach Pier.

#4 Paramount Coffee Project

A transplant from Sydney’s Surry Hills, the folks at Paramount Coffee Project are all about getting the best out of your beans. They work closely with roasters, farmers and brewers from around the globe to serve up one of the best cups of coffee in LA.

Where: 456 North Fairfax Avenue, Los Angeles

#5 Pollen

Owned by Brisbane’s Happy Fat restaurant group, Pollen is a microcosm of Australian café culture where staff serve up house-made everything, from honey to English muffins and sourdough. Some dishes, like the corn and bacon hash, have been given a distinctly American spin, presumably to make locals feel at home, too.

Where: 2100 Echo Park Avenue, Los Angeles

#6 Ministry Of Coffee

If you like your coffee strong, Ministry of Coffee has got you covered. Blending Turkish tradition with Sydney’s enviable café culture (it has outposts in Rose Bay and Pyrmont), the beans served here are local, organic and ground on site. Staff also serve up the comforts of home, like banana bread, raisin toast and grilled corn fritters.
