We’re Looking For A New AWOL Editor. Is It You?

Junkee Media is on the lookout for a new AWOL Editor! Our previous Editor is moving overseas, leaving his chair free for someone new to take the reins. The position is full time and permanent, and the ideal candidate will be a fast writer, skilled editor, well-versed in standard editorial operations and have a sophisticated understanding of the digital publishing ecosystem. You’ll be social media savvy and know how to get your content seen as widely as possible.

We’re looking for someone who can bring something new to AWOL and forge its direction over the next few years. The Editor will join Junkee Media’s editorial team, working directly with the Managing Editor and reporting to the Channel Director, Travel.

This role is responsible for all content published through each of AWOL’s channels, including writing news and features, managing our in-house staff writer as well as freelance contributors. The Editor also oversees the title’s social posts and video output.

Junkee Media is Australia’s leading youth publisher and based in Surry Hills. It is a subsidiary wholly owned by oOh!Media, which is based in North Sydney. The role will include interaction with the greater oOh!Media company.

Above all you’ll create and oversee original content that stands out from the crowd and have a real passion for engaging and award-winning storytelling.

AWOL Editor responsibilities:

The AWOL Editor oversees all content created for AWOL, including commissioning from external contributors, managing our in-house staff writer, and writing your own stories. It’s the Editor’s responsibility to ensure all content is timely, accurate, inspiring and in the AWOL tone of voice. You will create and oversee social videos and set functional content calendars.

In addition to this you’ll manage social pushes, image selection and be ready to represent AWOL at all levels both externally and internally.

You:

You’ll have a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field and at least three years of experience in a Travel Editor position or similar, and have a portfolio of published work to support your application. Experience managing people, budgets and social is a must and you’ll also be proficient in Microsoft Office, Mac operation and WordPress. A passion for and interest in local and international travel is a must and you’ll also align with Junkee Media’s core values.
