A Photographer Accidentally Discovered A Picturesque Lake Network In Iceland
Iceland has become one of the world’s most popular tourist destinations in a reasonably short space of time, with many visitors to the tiny country taking off on the Ring Road heading out in the dark to catch a glimpse of the Northern Lights.
But, while the country is known for its natural beauty, some of its most incredible natural phenomena are so well hidden they escape view of locals and tourists alike.
But photographer Aurel Manea says he prefers to shoot places off the tourist track, and his penchant for adventure has turned up a truly spectacular landscape. Flicking through photos, he came across a network of lakes that looked like something from another planet.
“I was standing 100m or so from them, [but] I could see nothing. Surveying the area with a drone at ground level also showed nothing interesting. But from above… Wow,” Manea told AWOL.
“Without any humans for more than 16km, the silence, mood, and beauty of the place was stunning.
Unabel to find much information on the region, Manea captured the footage and several pictures of the lakes, sharing them with his followers online.
“It was the perfect place to feel that I actually do something of value to myself and the world.”
