The Absolute Best Rooftop Bars In Bangkok

Bangkok

If there’s one thing that Thailand’s capital is known for, it’d have to be its bustling nightlife. Nowadays, the city is taking its visitors off the streets, and increasingly moving upward – from the elevated walkways that wind their way from shopping centre to shopping centre, to the spanking new retail and hospitality venues taking advantage of skyscraper-level views.

Forget the red light district and take in an altogether more luxe Bangkok experience next time you head to Thailand – and instead, bar-hop your way around the city at these chic rooftops perched high above the craziness.

Here are the absolute best rooftop bars in Bangkok.

#1 Cru Champagne Bar

Bangkok

If you’re looking for the mother of all rooftop bars, this 360-degree bar presented by champagne brand Mumm is your ticket to a sunset-tinged tipple. The only place in Thailand that you can sip on Pink Mumm No. 1 Champagne, Cru knows how to pack on the luxury.

Try a cocktail from their epic list of drinks, nibble on caviar and oysters, and watch the sun fall over the city, framed by the giant, neon arch that tops the Centara Grand.

Address: Cru Champagne Bar Centara Grand at CentralWorld, 999/99 Rama 1 Road, Phatumwan, Bangkok

Hours: Daily from 5pm-1am

Dress code: Smart casual, no shorts, flip flops or singlets (tank tops).

Special notes: All visitors must be 20 years or above

Above Eleven is a well-known watering hole in Bangkok, having been around for a few years. Inspired by New York’s Central Park, the bar is covered in fake grass, hedge mazes, and custom-designed structural trees.

The cocktails are great, but the food is even greater; based on the little known Peruvian-Japanese fusion cuisine, ‘Nikkei’, made famous in Peru following Japanese immigration. Think ceviche and sushi, and lots of chilli…

Address: 33rd Floor, Fraser Suites Sukhumvit, Sukhumvit Road, Soi 11, Bangkok

Hours: Daily from 6pm-2am

Dress code: No sandals, flip-flops or Birkenstocks, only fully covered shoes for gentlemen. No athletic or sports wear, no sleeveless T-shirts for men, no backpacks and luggage.

Notes: Head in on a Thursday night for live jazz sessions

You don’t go to The Speakeasy for the view, so much – even though it’s still lovely – here, it’s all about the vibe. Laid back, very cool, and the perfect way to end the night on a high.

Address: Hotel Muse, 55/555 Soi Langsuan, Lumpini, Pathumwan, Bangkok

Hours: Daily from 5.30pm-1am.

Special notes: If you’re looking for a unique boutique hotel in Bangkok, try the quirky Hotel Muse, which houses Speakeasy

Perched above Bangkok at a dizzying 250 metres in the air, Sky Bar at Lebua is widely regarded as one of the highest outdoor rooftop bars in the world. A Hollywood favourite, this well-awarded and stunning bar is topped with a circular indoor pavilion that houses yet another, higher bar called Distil.

Its fun ‘poptails’ combine a cocktail and a popsicle for those hot Bangkok nights, and you can even relax Cuban-style with a selection of cigars on the menu.

#5 Moon Bar at Vertigo

One of the firm favourites for the jet set, Moon Bar is about as fancy as it comes. With a comprehensive food menu that includes seafood and imported steaks, you can settle in for a long night at this stunning, completely open rooftop on the 61st floor of the 5-star (but ageing) Banyan Tree Bangkok. Moon Bar, however, is far from tired – and lures a fancy crowd that tend to book ahead in peak season. Just don’t look at your bill when it arrives – it’s more than likely going to ruin an otherwise perfect night.

Address: Banyan Tree Bangkok, 21/100 South Sathon Road, Sathon, Bangkok.

Hours: Daily from 5pm-1am.

Dress code: Smart casual. No shorts, sleeveless shirts, sandals or flip flops.

Special notes: Often featured in the world’s best rooftop bar lists
