A Nintendo Theme Park Is Coming To Universal Studios Japan

Controllers ready? The world’s first theme park based on Nintendo games is going to be hitting Japan in the coming years.

The park, which will be heading to Universal Studios Japan in the hip city of Osaka, is set to have a Super Mario focus. According to Japanese publication Sankei, Universal Studios have invested ¥40 billion ($4.6 billion AUD) into the theme park which is set to feature all your old Nintendo buddies – Mario, Luigi, Zelda, Donkey Kong and even a few Pokémon.

As Sankei reports, the Nintendo section of Universal Studios Japan is reportedly going to be on the same scale and size of the Harry Potter-themed section of the park, which opened back in 2014. While it’s still early days of production on the park, one can only assume a Nintendo theme park would be remiss without a killer Mario Kart themed roller coaster, so we’re planning our next trip to Japan accordingly.

Possibly the only bad news is us budding Nintendo fans will have to wait until 2020 for the park to be completed as USJ’s goal is to have the park ready by the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games. At least there’s some great things to do in Japan in the meantime.
