5 Amazing Cabins You Can Stay In Near Sydney
Sydney and winter aren’t concepts that typically go hand in hand. Between the beaches, the pool clubs and the Bondi to Bronte hike, you’d think that the city-dwellers were perpetually basking shirtless in the sunshine. But don’t believe the photos on the postcards – Sydney has winters, and the people living there can rug up and enjoy some down time with the best of them.
For locals and visitors looking to do exactly that, we’ve rounded up a list of cabins, cottages and shacks that make for the perfect winter weekend out of Sydney.
#1 Wollemi Cabins
Hidden deep in the Blue Mountains lies the Wollemi Wilderness Retreat which offers a collection of private escape cabins nestled among the wild untamed greenery. There’s the Love Cabin for a perfect couple hideaway, the Dream Cabin with a spa-bath and a hot tub and the bigger Wollemi Cabin which suits a group retreat. There’s even a TeePee with a spa bath and an actual cave you can rent. No big deal.
#2 Woolshed Cabins
Woolshed Cabins are known for their eco-friendly design which is gentle on the environment while also providing you with all of your creature comforts on your getaway. Only a short 20 minute drive from Blackheath, these cabins sit in the tranquil Kanimbla Valley beside the heritage shearing shed. WARNING: You won’t ever actually want to leave.
#3 Season of Mists
Season of Mists is a cut above the rest. Located 1.5 hours away from Sydney in Blackheath, this is luxury getaway accommodation done right. The main cottage is nestled atop the beautiful Kanimbla Valley with panoramic views up the wazoo. Settle in on the sun deck with a cuppa and a nice book and soak up all of that surrounding nature.
#4 Studio Cottage
Artist Ray Crooke built this cosy cottage as his studio in the ’70s and it now sits among a glorious overgrown outdoor area that looks like something out of The Secret Garden. Studio Cottage is located an hour or so south of Sydney on the Old Hume Highway.
#5 The Old Shack
Located on the tidal section of Cattai Creek, about an hour north-west of Sydney, The Old Shack is located on 26 acres of hidden valley, just a short walk from the wharf. Built in 1890, the shack has been standing for many years and has recently been renovated into a super cute little bush getaway. Sit and relax in the hot tub out back or strap on your hiking boots to explore the many bushwalking tracks around the shack. You can even rent a canoe and float upstream for a bit.
