Enjoy The Wholesome Moment The Matildas Heard We’ll Be Hosting The Fifa Women’s World Cup

This year has been one hell of a time for mildly inconvenient to completely hectic news, so it brings me great joy to share with you the extremely pure moment that the Matildas found out Australia‘s joint bid with New Zealand to host the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup was successful.

Their bid beat out that of Colombia‘s by nine votes at the FIFA Council meeting in Zurich early this morning, and the crowd went wild.

The Matildas were gathered in their boardroom to hear the announcement, obviously being careful to follow social distancing guidelines by sitting on chairs away from each other. Then Australia gets announced and all that goes out the window, but who could blame them.

LOOK HOW CUTE THEY ARE!!!

To be honest I’m not even a sports watcher, but even I can appreciate what a big moment it is to get to play such a huge comp on your own turf. Not to mention that last year about 1.12 billion people tuned in to the World Cup in France — so this is no small thing.

It’s set to be even bigger this time around, with it also being announced that the 2023 World Cup would increase the number of teams competing from 24 to 32.

“It will be even more global and have much positive impact on the development of women’s football,” FIFA Council president Gianni Infantino said.

Meanwhile, Football Federation Australia chairman Chris Nikou took the oppourtunity to promise they would use the opportunity to grow the sport.

“Our pledge to the FIFA family is that no stone will be left unturned to produce the best World Cup and grow the women’s game globally and in the Asia-Pacific region,” he said.

All I can say is, get it ladies!
