These 10 Asian Spots Are Totally Trending Right Now

Asia is a pretty expansive and diverse place for travellers to explore, so you’ll never be lacking in new and exciting destinations to discover across the continent.

Travel booking website Agoda has just released the top destinations in Asia that are currently trending. They said that travellers are looking for ““lesser-known destinations that promise unique experiences” and the type of places that are emerging in popularity really reflect this. I mean, it sounds about right to us. Why travel the well worn path when you can choose the road less travelled, etc, etc? You know the old adage, we don’t have to tell you.

Here are the emerging Asian destinations for travellers in 2016:

#10 Khao Lak, Thailand

With white sand beaches, forested hills and much more tranquility than you can find in Phuket, Khao Lak has grown in popularity due to its equal parts seclusion and accessibility. Day trips are easy to Phuket and Similan and Surin islands, making it a perfect spot in the middle.

#9 Siquijor Island, Philippines

A small island just off Cebu, Siquijor is revered for its stunning natural scenery and affordable accommodation. Perfect island vibes.

#8 Tangalle, Sri Lanka

Once a fishing village, Tangalle boasts a huge stretch of beach so blue and sandy, it’s a wonder there aren’t more people that hang out there. Wonderful for you, though.

#7 Harbin, China

Nicknamed ‘Ice City’ for the mindblowing ice sculptures at its winter festival, Harbin is the place to pick if you wanted to spend time in a cold city. The main river, Songhua, the lifeblood of the town, freezes over in winter for tourists and locals to skate on. Come summer, it’s perfect to swim and frolic about in, so you can visit any time.

#6 Koh Lanta, Thailand

Koh Lanta is made up of several smaller islands, but the biggest attraction is Koh Lanta Yai. Filled with swanky resorts and deserted beaches, it has a very chilled out atmosphere but its probably more ideal for families.

#5 Koh Rong, Cambodia

Located just off the coast of Sihanoukville, Koh Rong is being dubbed the ‘Thailand of 20 years ago’ for its undiscovered feel.

#4 Koh Lipe, Thailand

Need we say more? Turquoise water, white sandy beaches. The picture of Thailand island beauty.

#3 Koh Kood, Thailand

Thailand The Island Of Koh Kood Palm Trees Beach
Dreamy.

This one nabbed the number one preferred island in Thailand for the lack of tourists, great restaurants and coconut trees. Definitely not a destination for partygoers or those looking for a million different things to do, Koh Kood is a perfect little snoozy island. Formerly only available to visitors with deeper, more luxury inclined pockets, Koh Kood has really opened up to everybody so get in quick before everyone else gets in on the secret.

#2 Banaue, Philippines

Second mention for the Phillippines, Banaue is a world heritage listed town just outside of Manila. Due to its proximity to the capital, Banaue does have a regular influx of visitors but its not a surprise. The glimmering rice patties surrounding the small town are what draws the crowds. Built over 2000 years ago by the Chinese, the old clay patties are truly a must see sight for any trip to the Philippines.

#1 Niseko, Japan

The number one emerging Asian destination is the tiny ski villege of Niseko, Japan. Offering accommodation at four different resorts, the village of Niseko recieves a large amount of snowfall for skiing visitors. Set against the backdrop of Mount Yotei, it’s one of the most picturesque Japan ski settings we can think of. Ugh, Japan. You just keep getting cooler and cooler.
