Vance Joy’s Guide To Melbourne

Vance Joy’s Guide To Melbourne

Vance Joy is flying pretty high. After the breakaway hit of that song, Joy released his debut album Dream Your Life Away last year, toured it around the globe a few times over and was recently announced as support on the huge Taylor Swift North American arena tour. He’s currently in the middle of his only headline Australian shows for the year, the remaining dates of which can be found here. We caught up with Vance Joy before he jetted off to his next exotic destination to grab a few of his favourite hometown tips.

Favourite suburb

I like a few different places – I like Phillip Island. There’s a bay just off from San Remo where there’s great whiting fishing to do there if you have a good guide, plus lots of fresh mussels and pippis. Also the Fordham Milk Bar in Camberwell is a really nice quiet spot. I like the Studley Park boat houses in Kew and the Abbotsford Convent and Collingwood Children’s Farm just for a stroll. They’re nice places to feel free.

Favourite breakfast

Santucci’s in Burwood does really great sandwiches – no messin’ around.

Favourite place to end a (long) night

Zagame’s Matthew Flinders Hotels in Chadstone – I cannot recommend this place highly enough.

Favourite day trip

If I had a full day and a friend in tow I would go to the Red Hill area, choose a vineyard, drink at the cellar door and maybe go walking around in the vines. Then I’d go to one of the near by beaches and get a Magnum or Maxibon or hot chips (approximately ten dollars all up).

Favourite place to swim

Carnegie swimming pool. It’s a secret and it’s the best.

Favourite hidden gem

I feel bad letting all the secrets out but it would have to be that little garden bed water feature thing hidden up in the Royal Botanic Gardens. I kissed a girl there when I was in Year Ten.
