Um, Look At This New Underwater Wedding Chapel

Nothing screams “Wedding!” like convincing 22 of your friends to don their wetsuits for an under the sea marriage spectacular, hey? Well in Monaco, you can bet it’s the done thing now.

The Hotel Metropole Monte-Carlo just launched a new underwater wedding package that’s taking things to new heights – and by heights, I really mean depths.

Brides- and grooms-to-be can get married on the Mediterranean sea floor this summer, decked out with an altar, amphoras and even a bottle of champagne (your guess is as good as mine as to how they’re going to drink that underwater – maybe hook it up to their scuba suits!?) Ceremonies will be coordinated by world-famous free-diving champion Pierre Frolla (that’s him getting married above) who will keep you comfortable while you deliver your vows 12 metres below sea level.

The event will pack 22 guests and a celebrant down at the designated dive site. Brides can ditch the wedding dress for a white neoprene suit fitted with a voile skirt and pink scuba mask, while grooms can get a tailor-made tailcoat wetsuit and a bowtie – also, the hotel is very accepting of couples of any sexual orientation wanting to tie the knot underwater, which is great (ahem, Australia).

The happy couple will even get to live out their own Little Mermaid dreams during the ring exchange where they’ll receive their wedding rings enclosed in a seashell. N’awww.

Back on dry land, the reception party kicks on. The hotel will organise a decadent lunch and cocktail party on the beach, with champagne and French pastries. And hey – the whole thing won’t burn a hole in the hip pocket either. Ceremonies are set to cost around $4500 to $7300USD; a far cry from some other destination weddings.
