These Are Australia’s 10 Best Restaurants For Cheap Eats

Travel planning site TripAdvisor has tallied the scores and rounded up the reviews to name the country’s ten best restaurants for cheap eats. Did your fave make the cut?

By using an algorithm that takes into account both the quantity and quality of the reviews on the site, TripAdvisor’s Travellers’ Choice Awards have offered up the country’s best bargain bites, as voted by the travellers and locals who’ve actually eaten there.

Counting down, they are:

#10 Shanghai Street Dumpling, Melbourne, VIC
#9 Surfers Sandbar, Gold Coast, QLD
#8 Surfers Paradise Life Saving Club, Gold Coast, VIC
#7 Shamrock Hotel, Hobart, TAS
#6 Warung Ade Indonesian Restaurant, Mandurah, WA
#5 Ganbaranba, Cairns, QLD
#4 Laksa King, Melbourne, VIC
#3 Mamak, Sydney, NSW
#2 Yellow Deli, Katoomba, NSW
#1 Bagus Cafe, Cairns, QLD

Yes, Bagus Cafe in Cairns takes out the country’s top spot for its reasonably priced and exceptionally delicious Indonesian fare, enjoyed in a cool outdoor area. ‘Bagus’ means ‘nice’ in Indonesian, and apparently they ain’t lying.

Both Victoria and Queensland make a strong showing in the cheap and delicious eats category, with three entries each in the top ten, followed closely by New South Wales with two entires, and one entry each for Tasmania and Western Australia.

The Travellers’ Choice Awards also used their algorithm to determine the best fine dining restaurants in the country, with Muse Restaurant, in Pokolbin, New South Wales, taking out the coveted top spot. Sounds like your next special occasion food holiday is sorted, then.

On a more global scale, the Spanish restaurant Martin Berasategui took home the trophy for the best restaurant in the whole wide world. Now that’s one to pop on the mantle. Click here for the full list of winners.
