The Dalai Lama Called These NZ Boulders The Spiritual Centre Of The Universe

According to the Dalai Lama, one of the spiritual centres of the universe is found somewhere you mightn’t expect it – on a hillside on some New Zealand farmland.

That’s where you’ll find these impressive boulders in an area known as Castle Hill, or Kura Tawhiti to the Maori people. Back in 2002, while visiting the country, the Dalai Lama made the claim that the site was sacred.

On his trip, the Dalai Lama had been left uneasy by Christchurch, claiming the energies of the cities weren’t quite right. But when taken to the nearby Castle Hill, the monk was reportedly in awe of the rugged yet beautiful scenery.

Movie fans might agree with the Dalai Lama’s claims to the area being sacred, as nearby site Flock Hill Station was used in the 2005 blockbuster Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe.

The area is an altitude of 700 metres, and is located near State Highway 73 between Darfield and Arthur’s Pass, and it’s an easy flat walk up to the boulders.
