Falls Festival arrives on the West Coast

Summertime is synonymous with music festivals and whiling away the hours getting your summer festival outfits ready—is crochet or floral in this year? So in the spirit of summer, the long-running Falls Festival has finally decided to give the west coast some lovin’ and is rolling out to Fremantle for the very first time!

Experimenting with a different format, the festival won’t be a camping experience (although there is rooftop glamping for adventurous folk), but will instead be taking over local venues Kings Square, the old Myer building, Fremantle Town Hall and St John’s Anglican Church to deliver two jam-packed days of curated music and entertainment. This year’s massive line-up will see the likes of London Grammar, the Avalanches, Violent Soho and King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard playing sets for frenzied festival-goers. Falls Festival Fremantle runs from January 7 to 8.

Fun, frolics and freakishly good times at FRINGE WORLD Festival

Nothing screams “summer is here!” more than the return of the fabulous FRINGE WORLD Festival, filling the streets of Perth with plenty of fun, frolics and freakishly good times. Although we’re never quite sure what to expect with the largest annual event on WA’s festival calendar, FRINGE WORLD is always guaranteed to be weird, wacky and wonky – which is, admittedly, exactly how we like it.

Choose from the smorgasbord of events spanning comedy, cabaret, theatre, visual art, music, dance, film and circus. However, you might find that you’ll be hard-pressed to tear yourself away from the seductive charms of the alluring Pleasure Garden. FRINGE WORLD runs from January 20 to February 19.

Kick on at Kelp Bar At Kidogo Arthouse

There seems to be a lot of activity happening at Bathers Beach lately. It recently welcomed WA’s first licensed stretch of beach, and now the pop-up Kelp Bar at Kidogo Arthouse is back for the summer – happy days!

Kelp Bar is quite possibly the best beach bar at which to watch the mesmerising Indian Ocean sunset while enjoying summertime cocktails, so make the most of it before it disappears for another year. The pop-up bar will be opened sporadically during summer on January 25, 26, 28 & 29,  February 25 & 26, and March 3, 4, 5 & 10, 11, 12. Mark your calendars.

One Day In Fremantle

Fremantle has always been liberal and progressive, so it wasn’t surprising when the city recently announced its decision to celebrate Australia Day on 28 January as ‘One Day in Fremantle’, an alternative to the usual Australia Day celebrations, in a welcomed bid to include all Australians in national festivities.

‘One Day in Fremantle’ will be taking place at the Esplanade Reserve and will showcase performances by artists John Butler, Dan Sultan and Mama Kin, as well as hosting workshops and activities including a citizenship ceremony.

The Camelot Outdoor Cinemas has an exciting program filled with riveting new releases, captivating classics and fascinating foreign flicks, which will leave you spellbound under the stars. There’s also special jazz and oyster nights on the first Wednesday of every month, as well as live music nights.
