Where To Eat/Drink At 2am
Golden Dawn (134 Ponsonby Road) is one of the best places to eat and drink in the city. Local beers, interesting wines, Japanese Whisky and uncomplicated but delicious cocktails. The food is upscale bar food, the kind of thing you can share with a friend at 2am when you want to eat but you don’t want to sit down with a knife and fork. Depending on the night, there could be a live band, someone playing psych-drone records, or a yacht rock dance party.
If you want some live music, head to Whammy (183 Karangahape Road) and the Wine Cellar (next door). Both are usually on the punk/indie/rock spectrum, the Wine Cellar usually quieter or more intimate. If there’s nothing there you’re into, try Neck of the Woods (155 Karangahape Road) which could be indie/club/rap/electronica/whatever.
When it’s time to move and eat again, head to the Federal Delicatessen (86 Federal Street) for buffalo wings, poutine, and a cocktail (or, if you need some sobering up, a bottomless cup of joe).
