AWOL’s Guide To The Real Auckland

What To Pack

Auckland has a subtropical climate. Warm and humid in the summer, but not hot hot. Cool but not cold cold in the winter. If you’re here in summer, pack light: mostly short sleeves, light pants/shorts/dresses. Bring a light sweater and a light rain jacket, because it can rain at any time, even for just 10 minutes once a week. Oh, and a bathing suit, because you’re going to want to hit the beach.

In the winter, pack layerable warmth. Lighter wool or heavier cotton. Rain protection is more important than serious warmth. Your favourite heavy-duty thermal jacket will be a waste of space. Bring a pair of walking shoes and a pair of going out shoes.

New Zealand’s currency is the New Zealand Dollar (about AU$0.90), but New Zealand is very card friendly, so you don’t need to bring a lot of cash.
