Australia Is Getting Its First Summer Camp For Grown-Ups

‘Unplug. Unwind. Recharge.’

That’s the motto of Australia’s first summer camp for grown-ups, Camp Kidinyou, which is taking place on Victoria’s Great Ocean Road (just a few hours from Melbourne) this December. Taking the ethos of the American kids’ summer camps we all wished we could attend growing up, Camp Kidinyou aims to extrapolate their many benefits for an audience of Australian adults.

Think bunk beds, camp games, relay races, arts and craft workshops, fancy dress parties, and – the clincher – all-you-can-eat pizza. What you can expect leave behind: work, calendars, emails, social media and politics. The idea of ‘play’ is at the heart of Camp Kidinyou. Camp Director Dara Simkin, who grew up attending US summer camps for 13 years, says: “We’ve become really good at being busy, so now, more than ever, we need to go back to simpler times of playing outside and using our creativity.”

Tickets to the weekend camp cost $478 as an individual, with discounts available for groups. This price includes two nights sleepover in bunk beds, all activities, and all meals, including proper Melbourne-level coffee and a dinner feast by Fancy Hank’s BBQ. There’s also an optional extra bus transfer from Melbourne’s CBD.
